Enercon Systems International Pte Ltd

Enercon Systems International is a subsidiary of Enercon Engineering, Inc. USA & Enercon Asia Ltd. The company was established in 1994, and is globally recognized for customized Generator Synchronizing controls from simple rental applications to highly customized Oil & Gas Power Generation Control Systems.

During the lockdown, the inbound and outbound of the travel industry was shutdown. Therefore, Enercon was unable to seek opportunities overseas. Despite the travel restrictions, Enercon seeks to look for opportunities in Pahang, Malaysia, based on the information shared by Secretariat Nurfarhanah who attended the Pahang Investment Seminar in 2019.

Enercon approached SMCCI to get assistance in trade links with the Pahang government through Malaysia High Commissioner and have submitted their proposal to the Pahang government and they are still in talks.

SMCCI Super penyet

Super Penyet

Super Penyet was established in 2009 which sells its signature Nasi Ayam Penyet.

During the lockdown, inbound and outbound of the travel industry was shutdown. Therefore, Super Penyet was unable to seek opportunities overseas. Despite the travel restrictions, Super Penyet made an appointment with SMCCI’s panel of internationalization consultants (Torch Group), through SMCCI Internationalisation Consultant Session, to explore potential opportunities in the overseas market, specifically Dubai, UAE.

Torch Group assisted Super Penyet in linking them to Dubai’s supermarket to export their sambal paste to be sold in Dubai’s Supermarket and are still in talks.

SBY Satay

SBY Satay was established in 1947 and has been supplying meat products to the various food establishments, hotels, and caterers in Singapore.

During the lockdown, the inbound and outbound of the travel industry was shutdown. Therefore, SBY Satay was unable to seek opportunities overseas. Despite the travel restrictions, SBY Satay made an appointment with SMCCI’s panel of internationalization consultants (Torch Group), through SMCCI Internationalisation Consultant Session, to explore potential opportunities in the overseas market, specifically in Dubai, UAE.

Torch Group assisted SBY Satay in linking them to Dubai’s supermarket to export their frozen products to be sold in Dubai’s Supermarket and are still in talks.

SMCCI Hamidah Travel and Tours

Hamidah Travel & Tours Pte Ltd

Hamidah Travel & Tours Pte Ltd was established in 2004 and provides Umrah and Haj Packages. During the lockdown, both the Inbound and Outbound of the travel industry were shutdown. There were uncertainties of Haji and Umrah Services in 2020.

Rental and manpower issues are also one of the challenges they faced. There are audited accounts Concerns for FY2020 as well as maintaining minimum net value requirements at 100k.

Feedback gathered was collated and given to Singapore Tourism Board. With effect from 9th April 2020, STB made the following amendments to the travel agent legislation – The minimum net value requirements for travel agents holding a general license for holding niche license will be reduced by 90% to $10,000 or $5,000 respectively for the period 8th April 2020 to 31st December 2020. In addition, the enhanced JSS was also highlighted to the members and was received well.

Shahidah Travel & Tours Pte Ltd

Shahidah Travel & Tours Pte Ltd was established in 1980 and provides Umrah and Haj Packages.

SMCCI MEDINA

Medina Pte Ltd

Medina Pte Ltd was established in 2018. An interior company that provides home renovation for homeowners.

During the lockdown, they encountered challenges such as the manpower shortage from sub-contractors, limitations to building supplies due to Malaysia’s MCO, and facing other carpentry supplies issues.

The Chamber initiated a focus group discussion for the industry and IDs and Contractors in the renovation group have agreed to pool together the individual resources that they have on hand to tap on so that work can still be carried on despite the restrictions. 

Priboy Shipping Supplies Pte. Ltd.

Priboy Shipping Supplies Pte Ltd provides crew supplies to ships and has been in operation since the late 90s.

They were badly affected by the covid-19 crisis as ships could not come in and as a result, its average monthly sales dropped by 90%.

When she realized that the global economic shock was set to get worse for the shipping industry, she found the need to pivot her business. She shared that she has diversified her business, adopting a B2C model by setting up an online grocery portal.

Priboy has also benefited from the government’s covid measures support such as the JSS.

L.A.B Bridal Couture Pte Ltd

L.A.B Bridal Couture Pte Ltd provides wedding planning services which includes bridal decor and catering.

The protocols by the government affected the operations of weddings and events. She even faced rental issues and customers who wished to take back the deposit.

The Chamber has reached out to the organisation of Legal Clinic with M3@Lawyers to assist members to get clarity on the new measures. The Chamber has also assisted her with the rental relief assistance.

She managed to diversify her business in F&B to sustain.

SMCCI EDUREACH

Edureach Sevices LLP

Edureach Sevices LLP specialises in enrichment classes and provides programmes for students.

Because of the pandemic, she needs to switch to various e-learning platforms that are available to continue engaging students and facilitate Home Based Learning.

The Chamber initiated a focus group discussion for the industry and various online platforms were shared and exchanged during the discussion that allows companies to tap on them rather than developing their own software that may cost a lot. The group is currently collectively exploring opportunities to market the online learning platform to the overseas market. 

I AM Cafe

I AM cafe is a Muslim-owned establishment cafe that serves a line-up of Dutch-inspired food.

During the pandemic, the company faced issues with Business Continuity Plans due to the changes to take-away only modality and disruptions to manpower.

The Chamber assisted him with rental relief and he has benefited from the JSS scheme.

The company also joined in an initiative with MOM, MUIS, and chamber, over 200,000 packets of Hari Raya cookies were baked and prepared by members of SMCCI. The cookies were distributed to all Migrant Workers Dormitories across Singapore during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
