History of SMCCI

  • 1956Establishment

    Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce (SMCC) was launched by a group of enterprising Malay leaders, including the first President of Singapore, Mr Yusof bin Ishak and former Chairman of the UMNO (United Malays National Organisation) branch in Singapore, Mr Abdul Hamid bin Allwie.
  • 1957First Business Mission

    The first business mission conducted by SMCCI (then SMCC) was to Taiwan in 1957 where delegates from Singapore and Malaya attended a product showcase and seminar on Singapore-Malay trade.
  • 1995SMCC to SMCCI

    The Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce (SMCC) changed its name to the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 1995 to reflect a wider scope.
  • 2006SME Centre @ SMCCI

    SME Centre @ SMCCI was established in 2006 as a one-stop centre for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), offering a comprehensive range of advisory and business services including seminars, workshops, one-on-one complimentary business advisory, productivity assessments and more.
